Quality Design

Woollen Mills is a definitive, bold response to a location steeped in history and embedded in the hearts of generations of New Zealanders.

The complex blends old and new, combining the existing heritage listed structure with a heroic modern profile of concrete, glass and steel.

JWA Architects — known for their collaborative partnerships and strong focus on innovation and buildability — have taken a sensitive yet modern approach to the historic site.

A bold skyline pays homage to the site’s roots with a sawtooth roof that references the original Victorian factory silhouette, brought into the present with dramatised angles for a strong road presence.

Designed with the needs of its occupants in mind, every warehouse features large roller doors, wide internal roading for easy truck manoeuvres, clear wayfinding signage and plenty of car parks. As well as the front entrance, Woollen Mills includes an additional five access points from three roads to aid the pick-up and delivery of goods.
